Bob Mackie

Costume and fashion designer Bob Mackie is a nine-time Emmy Award winner, Geoffrey Beene CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award recipient and three-time Oscar nominee. Most recently, he received the 2019 Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for his work on The Cher Show. His Broadway credits include Moon Over Buffalo, Putting It Together (starring Carol Burnett), The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public, Minnelli on Minnelli, Lorelei (with Carol Channing) and On the Town (with Bernadette Peters and Phyllis Newman). Television adaptations of Broadway productions include Once Upon a Mattress (starring Carol Burnett), Gypsy (starring Bette Midler), Carousel, Brigadoon, Of Thee I Sing and Kismet.

The Art of Bob Mackie

Mackie’s unique, glamorous and sometimes hilarious creations have graced Broadway stages, TV screens, runways and red carpets worldwide. While other designers have come and gone, Mackie has soared from success to success, thanks to his pioneering genius and continual reinvention. For the first time, he has granted full access to his archives and personal memories to authors Frank Vlastnik and Laura Ross, who have crafted a lavish celebration of his achievements.

With a foreword by Carol Burnett and an afterword by Cher, The Art of Bob Mackie is the first-ever comprehensive and fully authorized book showcasing Mackie’s extraordinary career. Featuring hundreds of glorious photos and dozens of dishy recollections from Mackie and his many muses, this gorgeous volume also includes never-before-seen sketches spanning his prolific career—from his work on Marilyn Monroe’s iconic “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” gown to Carol Burnett’s “Went with the Wind” curtain-rod dress, to Cher’s show-stopping 1986 Oscar look.

The first 200 attendees will receive a free copy of The Art of Bob Mackie.
