Festival writer Dr. Margaret MacMillan’s most recent book, War: How Conflict Shaped Us, was named one of The New York Times’ Ten Best Books of 2020.
From The New York Times: “This is a short book but a rich one with a profound theme. MacMillan argues that war—fighting and killing—is so intimately bound up with what it means to be human that viewing it as an aberration misses the point.”
We are thrilled to announce the return of Dr. Margaret MacMillan to the RMWF (she appeared at the 2018 Festival). Dr. MacMillan is a Professor of History at the University of Toronto and emeritus Professor of International History and the former Warden of St. Antony’s College at the University of Oxford. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, Honorary Fellow of Trinity College, University of Toronto, Honorary Fellow of Lady Margaret Hall, St Hilda’s College and St Antony’s College at the University of Oxford. Margaret is also a Trustee of the Central European University in Budapest and the Imperial War Museum and sits on the editorial boards of International History and First World War Studies. She will be speaking at the Festival about her most recent book War: How Conflict Shaped Us.
